Material identification and verification of metals and alloys are critical to us and to you in interest of safety, part performance and liability. As you know, there are many negative issues that can occur if parts are produced out of the wrong material. No one can afford to make mistakes when it comes to material identification.
In the past, metallurgical analysis involved melting the part to determine its exact elemental make-up. Due to the complexity and time-line of this type of testing, most facilities simply guessed.
Precision Products takes a different approach and has invested in sophisticated X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) equipment. With this device, we can now test virtually any metal or alloy in seconds to determine the exact content in a non-destructive way. This assures you that everything we supply to you is absolutely correct. This minimizes your risk and liability, and provides you with the assurance that each part works properly in its intended application.
The XRF Technology allows us to test the finished parts, as well as, the raw materials. It is not uncommon to find mislabeled incoming raw materials. This could lead to disaster depending upon the application of the finished part.
Our rigorous ISO 9001:2008 quality system has procedures that require us to maintain documentation for each part tested. We will be happy to supply these certifications to you upon request.
XRF Technology also offers certifiable metallurgical testing for you when you require testing of metals or plastics to determine if they contain heavy metals such as lead and arsenic. This is a very economical service and can be done at our facility or the customers depending on the size of the part to be tested.
The XRF device is portable and can be carried to your location, where applicable, to test large samples for fast and easy alloy identification. The device identifies over 350 standard alloys and gives the detailed elemental analysis of any alloy not in its database. The output files are 100% court admissible, and our staff of certified operators are trained and ready to assist you as needed.
|Consumer XRF Testing|
Precision Products is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company offering mobile XRF testing on products such as textiles, resins, fibers, consumer products, toys, jewelry, plastics and many other materials.
Over the last few years, one of the most common uses of Xray fluorescence testing devices is for testing toys and other consumer products for the presence of lead, antimony, chromium, cadmium, mercury and other heavy metals. Not only is XRF fast and safe, Precision uses the exact same device that is used by the Consumer Product Safety Council which is the Niton XL3t analyzer ensuring you the best possible data and accuracy.
Precision follows all guidelines for testing to comply with CPSIA standards, and our testing can be used to meet the "general conformity certification" requirements where third party testing is not yet mandated according to CPSC. The Niton analyzer is the only device on the market that generates a 100% encrypted/tamperproof data in the event you ever need proof of compliance in court.
Lead and cadmium poisoning damages the nervous system (especially in children) and can cause blood and brain disorders. Lead has been linked to learning disabilities in children even at low levels. There is no acceptable level of lead in the human body, and it is critical to ensure your products comply with the latest standards such as the Consumer Products Safety Improvement act of 2008. Precision can assist you in this area with fast and economical testing.
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act limits lead to 90ppm in paint or surface coatings as of August 14, 2009. Precision's XRF device is capable of testing metals, as well as, plastics to determine if they contain elements such as lead, arsenic or any other heavy metals. Over the years, many manufacturing companies have come to rely on traditional industrial hard chrome finishes for all their plated roller and part needs. With a Rockwell hardness of 60 -62Rc, it has proven to be a reliable and economical coating for most uses.
Since 2007, Precision Products has replaced hard chrome with a new product called UnObtanium. This material offers a much harder and more durable finish with 2 to 5 times longer life in our tests.
UnObtanium may be applied to a variety of base metals including stainless steel, carbon steel, iron, and Inconel. In some cases that utilitize large cross-sections of material, we can also apply the coating to aluminum. Unlike other high pressure, high velocity, oxygen fuel applied coatings, UnObtanium reaches up to 99% density assuring you a durable and corrosion free surface in chemically basic environments. However, for extremely corrosive/acidic environments, we also offer a 2-layer system with a corrosion barrier under the UnObtanium outerlayer. UnObtanium can be applied in a variety of surface finishes.
|Gear Box Repair|
Since 1993, many customers have relied on Precision Products to provide high precision parts for critical applications. In addition to machining parts, we also offer service on power transmissions devices such as gearboxes. Gearboxes are usually found driving large machinery where downtime is critical. Therefore, long shutdowns are not an option.
Once we receive your gearbox, our trained machinist and engineers determine the best way to get you back into production. We service a wide range of gearboxes up to 750kW.
Using our advanced metallurgical analysis tools, we test every shaft and gear to ensure any replacements we make will be of OEM quality and hardness. We offer replacement gears up to 102" diameter and can heat treat or carburize, as needed, to ensure long gear life.
We also offer ground gears, when needed, or a class 10 finish on non-ground gears to assure smooth operation. Since we are a full service precision machining facility, we also address any other issues needed to restore your gear box to proper operation including shafts, bearings and housing repairs.
Precision Products always uses SKF bearings and dual lip Viton seals when available. We also have access to other high-quality bearings such as NSK and Timken. When your operation demands a fast turn around, count on PPI to get you back up and running FAST. When working under emergency situations, we can usually rebuild a typical gearbox in 5-7 days when no gears are involved, and 6-14 days when gears are required.

|Metering Pump Rebuilding|
Precision Products has been directly involved with the extrusion industry since 1993. In addition to other extrusion parts, such as spinnerets, breaker plates, etc., we also offer refurbishing of precision gear driven metering pumps.
For many operations, metering pumps are used because of the benefits related to metering and pressure control. When a metering pump is operating properly, the extrusion line can be counted on to generate a constant output.
There are very few companies in the USA that can properly rebuild these ultra high-precision melt/metering pumps. Precision Products is a leader in the USA at providing this service throughout the extrusion industry, and we are certified under the rigorous ISO 9001:2008 standard.
Since our shop has exotic CNC and EDM machining centers, as well as, two coordinate measuring machines capable of .000080 of an inch accuracy, you can be assured that when we rebuild your gear pump, it will be restored to OEM specification. We also offer in-house metallurgy that allows us to test your original gears nondestructively and duplicate them exactly.

|Metrology - Industrial Metrology - CMM|
Industrial metrology is the science of measurement and without precise measurement no machine shop is capable of making precise parts. Our shop maintains extensive calibration on all our measurement devices tracing them back to NIST standards. It is only with this rigorous calibration schedule and our ISO 9001:2008 certification that Precision is able to ensure to our customers that the parts are made to print.
Precision Products offers high precision metrology from two coordinate measuring machines. The largest machine is a Zeiss Contura offering scanning technology as well as reporting capacity to compare the part to the original blueprint or tolerance sheet.
The Zeiss is also widely used for reverse engineering, as well as, quality assurance. In addition to the Zeiss, Precision Products also has a Brown and Sharpe Mistral CMM and both machines are calibrated and certified to .000080 of an inch or 2 microns.
Precision Products is now a one stop source for all of your Class 1 laser etching and marking needs. Laser etching is performed on a variety of products for a variety of reasons including part numbers, logos, identification, arrows for up and down, bar coding, QR codes, informational content such as name, address, phone, website, security ID numbers -- virtually anything that can be digitized into a vector file.
Your products can now be marketed with your identifying corporate logo or web address, and we can easily etch a QR code or web address that links to your re-order page to allow your customers to easily re-order your products.
Another common use for laser etching is to identify aspects and features of your part, directional arrows (up, down, left, right) or assembly info pertinent to your specific part. This is especially great for industries such as aerospace and the medical field where it is necessary to mark parts with lot numbers, batch numbers or serial numbers.
Our FOBA laser works with a wide range of materials such as metals, plastics, coated metals, glass, granite, wood and acrylic. On coated metals such as anodized aluminum, the laser slightly discolors the anodizing which produces a nice color contrast to the base material without affecting the performance of the anodized surface.
Laser marking produces a very clear and easy to read marking that can easily be scanned when using barcode and QR code readers including smartphones. Our device can handle flat parts up to 14 inches x 15 inches with heights up to 13 inches. On round parts, we can rotate them and mark the entire circumference on parts up to 3.5 inch diameter.
|Extruder Feed Throat Repair|
Extrusion feed throats are subjected to more wear and tear than the rest of the extrusion line. Therefore, they tend to wear out faster than other similar parts. Often referred to as zone 'Zero", the feed throat is an important part of the process. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked.
Since every pellet of resin that supplies the line goes through this throat, it is critical to ensure optimum production off the entire line.
When feed throats become damaged and worn with significant scarring and corrosion, they are often left in poor condition due to the expense of repairing them. However, Precision Products is now offering complete rebuilding and resleeving of your worn out feed throat.
